OLE SMOKY RACING
Stock car racing began during Prohibition in the 1920’s with runners bootlegging moonshine. The majority of this corn liquor was made in the Appalachian region of the United States. Runners were known for outsmarting federal agents who were cracking down on unpaid taxes. They would soup up their cars to increase speed and handling on the twisty mountain roads. During this time, runners then held their own races to determine the fastest car which would give them bragging rights.
In the late 1940’s along with the help of some large influential drivers, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or NASCAR was started. On February 15, 1948, the very first official NASCAR race was held in Daytona, Florida. NASCAR is now one of America’s largest spectator sports with over 75 million fans.
The Ole Smoky family loves racing at all levels. From dirt tracks to NASCAR, we support the teams and drivers that race hard every week. We are proud to be the official moonshine of the Bristol Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway.
